Discussion of Symantec’s ISTR: Internet Security Threat Report
Brian Brotschi, CISSP, CCSP, CRISC, CIPM
The Symantec Internet Security Threat Report (aka ISTR) has been published annually since January 2002, when it was first published as the “Riptech Internet Security Threat Report”. Join me in reviewing some of the highlights learned during CY18. The ISTR provides an overview and analysis of the year in global threat activity. The report is based on data from Symantec’s Global Intelligence Network, which Symantec analysts use to identify, analyze, and provide commentary on emerging trends in attacks, malicious code activity, phishing, and spam. This is not a review of data breach events. The report is focused on areas where Symantec has original data.
As Symantec’s Director of Technical Sales, Brian leads a team of security solution engineers who are responsible for proposing enterprise security solutions for private sector organizations in the Southwestern USA. Brian has more than 25 years of experience in the high technology industry. He began his career as a satellite earth station engineer with Telesat Canada and had held individual contributor and leadership positions in the areas of sales, marketing, system engineering and professional services for privately held and publicly traded organizations. He is a certified networking expert (aka CNX), CISSP, CIPM, CRISC, CCSP and active member of; (ISC)2, ISSA, ISACA, InfraGard and globally recognized as an expert on endpoint security and network access control solutions.
