ISSA Orange County is seeking speakers for the 31st Annual SoCal Security Symposium being held at the Hilton Executive Meeting and Conference Center in Long Beach, CA, on October 13, 2016. Applications are open to the public and this notice serves to inform interested parties of the deadlines, selection criteria, and other information pertinent to the submission and selection process.
ABOUT THE EVENT
This year is the ISSA Orange County Chapter’s 31st Annual Security Symposium. The theme for this year’s event is “From the Basement to the Boardroom” and will bring to focus the challenges that information security leaders, practitioners, and line of business stakeholders face in collaborating to improve their overall security resilience. As in previous events, we will have a knowledgeable line up of speakers along with generous sponsors who will showcase their solution and service offerings.
- All information in the Submission section needs to be provided and in the same sequence as shown to be considered.
- Submissions must align with the selection criteria.
- Proposed speakers must either own the rights to the material presented or have permission from those third parties that hold title.
- All submissions must be made by the proposed speaker (we will not accept submissions from representatives or “on behalf of”).
Outlined below are the areas that the committee will primarily use to review submissions and make selections. Proposals should demonstrate the ability to meet these criteria clearly.
NEUTRALITY & PRACTITIONER FOCUS
ISSA OC is committed to supporting presentations that are beneficial to the information security practitioner and are therefore free of vendor service and product elements. Any abstracts that reflect a promotional approach or incorporate elements outside of neutral practices will be scored accordingly. All talks that are accepted are subject to being vetted thoroughly by the committee.
THEME ALIGNMENT (relevance)
Each year ISSA Orange County brings a specific focus to the Symposium to ensure relevance and value for our members that speak to the current issues. The theme for this year is “From the Basement to the Boardroom”. We chose this theme to share best practices on how security practitioners can improve their engagement with non-security line of business executives and impact their organization’s overall awareness, support and resilience. Proposals aligned to this theme will be given higher consideration.
Speaker should have direct experience on or with the topic they propose to speak about. This does not mean the speaker needs to be an expert, but should have unique experience regarding the topic (a project directly undertaken, an initiative led, research performed, etc.).
You don’t need to be a “pro”. Speaker should be able to convey their ideas clearly with relevance and effective delivery. Previous speaking engagements highly recommended.
Submissions may be provided via email to the Program Director, email@example.com. Submissions must follow the format provided either as in line text in an email or as a separate attachment.
Submissions must be received by July 15th, 2016 to be considered. Speakers who have been selected will be notified by August 1st, 2016.
